Treasure hunting
When I was organizing and cleaning and de-cluttering this weekend, I uncovered a whole host of treasures I thought were either a) long gone or b) I had forgotten about:
1. The Largest Diamond Ring on a Fake Pearl Necklace ever known to man. The back story on this is that my girlfriends gave me a fat, fabulous bachelorette weekend in Washington, DC the month before I got married in 2004. (The picture is grainy and dark and weird, but that’s for sure KBosco and me and that’s FOR SURE the honkin’ necklace. We apparently thought it would be cute and cool to pose next to the license plate on a limo.) I found the necklace underneath the sink in my bathroom inside a makeup bag.

2. My gold signet ring. Frankly, I didn’t know this was lost. (Sorry Mom!) I got it when I was itsy bitsy and wore it until high school, I think. Probably my first ever bit of monogrammed jewelry.

3. The first piece of Mexican sterling silver I ever bought. I was in Cuidad-Juarez, across the border from El Paso, when I was 15. I remember bartering hard for this – I really wanted it.

4. Brian got the nickname Flava Flav for this. It was the first gift he ever bought me, and in his defense, he had seen a necklace like this in Germany when his sister lived there. Nevertheless, it’s not something I (ever) wore, but I kept it.

5. A jewelry bag from my grandmother. She and my grandfather traveled a lot when they retired, and this came from…somewhere.

All the other stuff I found is stuff that I should’ve known the location of all along. It was kind of like finding an old yearbook, except without the bad hair and all the hours of self-loathing. I filled up two giant trash bags with crap…but the stuff I saved was really worth it.
